Privacy Policy

Fair Market Valuations ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through fairmarketvaluations.app, why we collect it, and your rights. Our handling of personal information is designed to meet the requirements of Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Canada's federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

1. Information we collect

• Equipment details you submit: year, make, model, vocation, hours/mileage, serial or VIN, condition, province.
• Contact information: your name, email, and (optionally) phone number when you unlock an estimate.
• Purchase information: if you buy a verified appraisal, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number.
• Technical data: IP address, browser/user-agent, page views, and basic analytics events used to operate and improve the Site.

2. Why we collect it (purposes)

• To produce and deliver your instant value estimate.
• To contact you about your submission and about our appraisal services.
• To fulfill and support any paid verified appraisal you order.
• To operate, secure, and improve the Site.
• To comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal basis / consent

Under Alberta PIPA, BC PIPA, and PIPEDA we collect, use, and disclose personal information with your knowledge and consent for the identified purposes above. When you submit the form and click to unlock your estimate, you provide express consent to us contacting you by email or phone about your equipment and related appraisal services.

Under CASL, the emails we send in response to your request (your estimate, follow-up about your appraisal order, receipts, and service updates) are transactional or relationship-based messages. Every email we send includes our identification and a one-click unsubscribe link. We do not use your information for marketing newsletters or bulk campaigns unless you separately opt in.

4. Who we share with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us operate the Site, under contractual confidentiality and security obligations:

• Hosting & database: our platform provider, which stores form submissions, accounts, and appraisal records.
• Payments: Stripe processes verified-appraisal payments.
• Email delivery: our transactional email provider sends your estimate and receipts.
• Comparable-sales data: we query public listing and auction sources to build estimates; we do not send them your contact information.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Where your data is stored

Data may be processed in Canada and the United States by our service providers. Where data is processed outside your province, comparable protections apply through contractual and technical safeguards.

6. Retention

We keep lead and appraisal records for as long as your relationship with us is active, and for up to 24 months after the last activity, after which we delete or anonymize identifying details. Financial and appraisal records may be kept longer where required by law (for example, tax and professional-conduct recordkeeping).

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Request correction of information that is inaccurate or out of date.
• Withdraw your consent to future contact at any time (see Unsubscribe below).
• Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal recordkeeping requirements.
• Ask a question or file a complaint about our handling of your personal information.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@fairmarketvaluations.app. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or of British Columbia, or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

8. Unsubscribe

Every commercial email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link in the footer. You may also request removal by emailing hello@fairmarketvaluations.app. Unsubscribing stops marketing and follow-up messages; we may still send transactional messages needed to fulfill a paid order.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards — including encrypted transport (HTTPS), scoped database access controls, and vetted service providers — to protect personal information. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies and local-storage entries. A dismissible notice appears on your first visit so you're informed before you continue.

• What we use: an authentication session token (keeps you signed in), form-state entries used during the valuation flow, and Stripe cookies on checkout pages for fraud prevention and payment processing.
• What we don't use: Google Analytics, advertising pixels, cross-site tracking, or retargeting cookies.
• Your controls: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block strictly-necessary cookies, sign-in and checkout will not work.

If we introduce analytics or marketing cookies in the future, we will update this policy and the on-site notice to offer you a choice before they load.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced on the Site. The "Effective" date above indicates the current version.
